Isn't there a way you can allow certain usergroups to choose their own style for forums? as an admin there used to be a dropdown box to choose but since upgrading i don't have it.

You can force a Style onto Users on a per Forum basis by going editing the settings for each specific Forum.

as admin i'd like to switch quickly to see what each forum looks like with each style. i used to have a drop down box.

also, my style isn't being overwritten with the default style even though that's how i have it set.
