Default Update Posts While User Is Posting

Either it was in form of a mod or discussion. Anyway, would anyone else find it useful to have a mod that update posts in real-time while a user is posting? I'm formally requesting it to be added at vB.org, not offering to code it, if it hasn't been done already.

Like a new PM or pager, the intended user is aware of it. Same principle - maybe a different technology - but for the benefit of the posting user. Maybe not a constant refresh like Who's Online as I can see it may be more of an irritant rather than being helpful. An iframe or popup?

Sometimes, here and even on my forum, I find myself replying to someone and realize only after submitting my post that another user (or users) have posted before me. The result can lead to a disruption of the flow of conversation; redundant information; misunderstanding to the unintended (happened to me and another user yesterday). If I'm given a warning I can review the updated posts and see if I need to edit anything before submitting mine.

This request is not an original idea of mine but something I came across a week or two back and thought it would be beneficial.

Similar discussion here:

Apparently SMF boards alert the user. This would be VERY cool for vBulletin!

i see, but there is a problem

think about user a posts a questions
user b wants to answer it and starts post
user c wants to answer but stops as he saw user b is already posting then user b cancels the new post, because of any reason...

I think he means that if say I was replying to this, and in the meantime someone else has completed posting a reply to you, it alerts me that there are "new posts" within the thread via AJAX and I can choose whether to refresh the page and save my post or not

That would require interval XHR calls which is not a good use of AJAX as it can increase resource usage not spare it.

Might be better when submit or preview was click, that any new posts would be detected and placed above a preview post and then the user had the option to edit or cancel if they want.

I'd like the option when clicking Submit or Preview tab. Nice suggestion.
