Max # of forums
I am wondering if there is a max amount of forums that one can have.
I'm setting up a forum for a client. And they need about 2000 forums. I got up to forum id #919. I go to add more and all i get is a blank blue screen. It's not even letting me edit any forums... Any ideas? Thanks |

well, there is no build in limit (except of the limit an integer value itself has )
but more forums can result in a lot of load so the server could timeout. for the ACP there is are a few options to optimize the processes a bit with a lot of forums, but it's still a strong issue for the server... |

IT will greatly depend on your server (memory/speed) but also on things like how long the forum titles are.
All forums with their settings/permissions/etc.. are loaded into: - a row in the datastore table. This could get too long, also depending on this like the title length - Into the $vbulletin array in memory on each page loaded. If the array gets too big, you could run into memory problems on the server, or face time-outs. |

Hi, I am hbalagh1's client and I have requested extra memory for my server and hope to have that sorted on Monday. However once that issue is resolved how do we overcome the limit that vBulletin has built into their software as there does not appear to be a hack? Thanks

I'd go ask at vb.com about that |

There is no limit built in, the problem is that in practice, more than about 1500 forums is going to hit caching problems.

Thanks for the replies. So will the extra hardware sort the problem out? Or is there something else that needs to be done. I really do need a large amount of forums to make my forum work successfully. Thanks.

well, not only implement more hardware but also increase the memory limit in the configurations
also as it is such a vast ammount of forums, think about maybe other possibilities, if a vast majority of your forums will get the same permissions, but just different things to store in, a database addition may help of course i can just give general answers, but i don't see a reason, why anyone would really need more than 500 forums... (of course there could be a need, i just suggest of thinking about other ways, which may help to solve those problems) |
