Has anyone ever seen this error? If so, what do I do?

Ouch, that sounds to me like your database files are corrupted....

Maybe try to export/dump/backup the database and re-importing it....

144 = Table is crashed and last repair failed - try another repair on the table.

Sometimes you will need multiple repairs to fix a table.
