Best way to completly back up your forum/website?
Now that I've got a lot done, I want to be SURE that if theres a huge crash and it all goes kaboom that I have a full backup.
Can someone please fully explain how to back up everything? Thanks! |

1 - mirror or ftp everything on your site
2 - export your entire dB with phpMyAdmin create a ZIP with the content... BAM, you're done... what makes the backups so complicated these days ?! and next time, post in here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=15 |

PHP downloads limits are usually 2megs in size, so it is completely useless to make files bigger... the only way to deal with these big files is by shell... you can tr to backup with a .zip or a .tgz/tar file, but usually, the transfert is done but not the backup, because the server timeout too... PHP is not good for big transferts... the biggest tables are usually phrases/templates/posts ... so making these seperate from the others is good when dealing with big forums... |

C-panel has a Backup feature that download database. I've used it for up to 800 megs before, both to a data center, and to my home box.

ssh access to the mysql server to do your database back up, it is the best way to get the backup.
