Will I have to upgrade to 2.2.9 before I upgrade to 3.0?

What are the best programs to help a noobie that has never updated their VB before? Even if I have a bunch of hacks, is upgrading going to break them? :nervous:

No, as long as you have a 2.xx board you can upgrade. Also, hacks you have installed shouldent affect the upgrade. I went from 2.2.3 to vB3 Beta 3 with no probs at all.

There is defiantly going to be a Beta 5 then if all is good the first RC. Maybe another if they still find some bugs

It's recommended to upgrade to 2.2.9 or 2.3.0 first before upgrading to 3.0.0. This is because 2.2.9 and 2.3.0 have a DIFFERENT database structure to previous versions.

From the README.HTML file by Kier in the vB3 Beta ZIP:

To upgrade, to vBulletin 3 your existing installation must be running vBulletin 2.2.9 or 2.3.0.

So upgrade to 2.2.9 or 2.3.0 if you want to avoid database problems and corruption in the future.

My support has expired, so how much will I end up forking over again? I looked here: http://www.vbulletin.com/order/ and couldn't find anything for someone in my situation.

Also, once I get support again, I should easily be able to upgrade to 2.3.0 correct? (since I figured higher is better and that's what you suggested)

I was told once, what are those search and replace proggies that help you compare code and update files by code? Are there any that are more noobie friendly than others?

Is updating the php files all that's required to upgrade versions? I don't actively backup my site, but my host says they backup every night. So as long as I download all my php and other main files I shouldn't have to worry about the actual database right?

How long are we talking for doing this transfer? I run a rather old, highly hacked version.

Is VB 3.0 beta open to the public? and if so, if I decided to upgrade and go to 3.0 Beta, will there be a big difference in 3.0 beta and the full 3.0? I ask that because I'm not looking forward to going through all my files and updating them as there is quite a bit of tweaking thats been done. :dead:

support is going to be $30 i believe..... as far as the BETA version and the final version..... i am sure they will be quite different.... i have seen one of the beta versions on a site i go to and there are some bugs and the look isn't as clean as the older versions.... i'd just wait

@Gutspiller: if you jsut upgrade because you want upgrade to vb3, you don't need any file comparison.

just uploade the needed upgradexx.php files and run them in the right order, afterwards upload the vb3 files.
it's just recommended to have vb230 because of the db structure, and the structure you'll have after calling the upgrades.php
