Enhanced Image Captcha - Stop bots from signing up!
Developer Last Online: Dec 2014
Title : Enhanced Image Captcha
Version : 2.2b VB Versions : Currently working and tested on 3.8.4 (as of Dec 2014) Coder : Andy Calderbank & Jason Williams Purpose : Add extra Image Verification to the registration process, using an alternative system to the Captcha system. The Enhanced Image Captcha system is a unique system using images versus text to stop spammers signing up to your forum. The script automatically detects images and uses the filename as the title, making adding new images extremely simple. To further improve security, the images are passed through a script which means that none of the images on the screen have file names - and cannot be associated to the question by title alone - and cannot be viewed by trying to access the images directly. Please note, there is a .htaccess file within the images directory, to keep security tight, this must be kept, without it bots are able to scan the images and make a match, I understand not every server can utilist .htaccess but cannot get around this. Important : This has been tested on 3.7 and 3.6.2 - as far as I know this should be backwards and forwards compatible. My thanks go to all the guys who have helped with this, all the suggestions and feedback, all has been take on board and where necessary included in this new version - members in particular are : King Kovifor, Danny.VBT, Lynne and RCK. Also thanks to ogameclub for the Turkish translated version. I must thank Opserty too for their hard work in making me understand where I was going wrong!! New features from original 1.11 release!! I hope this is help to the VBulletin community as I know this is a growing problem. I don't fancy the thought of trawling through hundreds of new members deleting stupid usernames and spam posts. Installation :

For some reason I can't get the images to show up correctly.
Just some X's in IE, and firefox is the same. images were uploaded to the default root/images/verification Permissions don't need to affect it. |

Installed it on 3.6.5 (updated from the older mod because bots could come in) and works perfectly.
I added the Dutch version of this mod. Phrases and images translated, not the installationguide. |

Glad to hear it's working, thanks also for the translation, if it's ok with you, when I do any updates I will release the Dutch version too?
Thanks again |

Go ahead, make other people happy with it
But unfortunally the bots seem to get in anyway. I have set the number of pics high, but today another one succesfully registered on my board. They are easaly identified thanks to their names and date of birth (always 1-1-1980), but nonetheless the seem to get in anyway. |

is there a way to implement this in the sendmessage.php file. I have the 3.6 version still installed on my 3.7.2 board (clicked installed on the older thread) and I currently have my boards messaging system turned off because bots like to send me e-mail too. LOL.

I was able to convert version 1 to work with the sendmessage script, when I get a spare 5 minutes I will knock up a quick conversion.

Hi there!
I'm sorry for not replying earlier... I promised translating the product into German and I'm finally done. I attached the version to this posting. However, I experienced some troubles with the product while using the Interent Explorer and my Testboard (Vbulletin 3.7.2) It doesn't matter if I use the original English Addon or my German version of it. The Problem is, that everything works fine with Firefox. But when I try to register using Internet Explorer the images are not displayed at all. Just the little boxes with a red cross in them. I checked the poath to the images and it's correct. Do you have any idea what might have gone wrong? I'm using Vbulletin 3.7.2 and Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 and as mentioned FireFox. Please let me know if you need any further information |
