Advanced @User Tagging Mod: What is it?
DragonByte Technologies is proud to present [DBTech] Advanced @User Tagging. This version introduces several major new features that users have requested, and some others we were unable to fit in v1.0. The @user Tagging mod is designed to increase activity on your forum by allowing members to mention each other in posts when talking about them. This is done in a very easy way, very similar to how Twitter mentions people. We use @ ; as the tags, so for instance you could say: ---- This new mod from @Dragonbyte Tech; is pretty cool. ---- The ?@DragonByte Tech;? Will become a link to the DragonByte Tech users profile, it will also inform DragonByte Tech they had been mentioned, and link to the relevant thread/post via a new area in the profile section, as well as a new tab in the shoutbox. It also allows members to ?tag? the thread for specific other members by inputting their usernames in the tag box above the posts of the thread. This is a great way to increase your forum activity with no extra admin input required ? people will start to mention posts/threads to their friends, which will increase the amount of posting. This is especially useful of forums which have an international contingent (so threads posted in during the night for some of your members don't go overlooked) or forums which have a lot of posts/threads each day ? again to make sure that a post a person might want to read doesn't get lost in the crowd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you like this mod please hit the button to the right ----> Please remember to click the, button to the right if you installed the mod ----> What does 'Marking As Installed' do ? * It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available. * For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention. * Marking a modification as installed also helps us know how many people are using our work, giving us extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications. We appreciate the support! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Priority support & Product Demos available at: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/forum.php ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Translations available @ [url="http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/forums/91-Translations[/URL] Support for translations handled by the translator in its respective threads only. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Major Features Twitter-style @ "Mentions": Typing @username produces a "Mention" that will alert the user to your post, as well as link to their profile. Quote Alerts: Members you quote will be alerted, ensuring that discussions can continue smoothly even if they left the thread. Profile Integration: Displays Mentions, Tags and Quotes in profile tabs for quick overview of a member's activities within the mod. Complete Feature List Lite Emails:

For future reference it's *always* a good idea to post bugs over at our forums so they are automatically tracked by our system, stuff slips through the cracks way too easily on the org >.<

You're offering it here, supporting it here, why should I join another board to report a omission? |

Not forcing you to use the official site, just pointing out the support there is generally quicker, updates are released there first and issues and feature requests posted there are properly tracked and accounted for so they don't get overlooked or forgotten ^.^ Iain |

Please don't misunderstand - I appreciate your offerings of free modifications and your efforts at free support. You put out some good stuff. But here you are responding to something in your Mod that is obviously something overlooked and omitted, something simple, with a complaint that I didn't use the "official" forum therefore it's MY fault the report might have been overlooked, forgotten or omitted! The irony is strong here. When that time could have been spent duplicating the issue, verifying it and figuring it out, taking it seriously instead of trying to blame shift. One more time, here is the issue: This modification does not work at all if the user who is tagged with it has a underscore in their username. It works with dashes and dots, but not underscores. I would appreciate a update that fixes this. |

For the record I don't personally handle code support so the "time wasted" argument doesn't really apply here either =) Thanks again for reporting the issue - as before if it's important to you I strongly suggest you report it on our forums to ensure it goes into the bug tracker. We have over 30 products by several coders and it's not possible to drop everything to fix a bug reported immediately, which means that they can easily be forgotten about if they are not being actively tracked. We have a system set up and in place - one that can't be used here on vb.org - to ensure bugs are properly logged and accounted for. vb.org isn't really designed to actively support so many modifications easily (over 50 when vb3 & 4 versions are taken into account) If people choose not to use it then there is a chance they will be overlooked. No one is at "fault", it's merely an option there users can take advantage of to ensure issues important to them don't fall through the cracks. Just to make sure you don't get the wrong end of the stick again, this isn't a 'complaint' and i'm not trying to 'blame' you for anything - I'm just explaining why it's a good idea to use the system in place at our site and the reasons things easily get missed. Just fix it dude. Please. No more platitudes. I don't care about your system. Your system is inherently your problem, not mine.
Mine is, you left out a fundamental portion of this modification - covering the user who uses a underscore in his/her nick. |
