Very nice, I did something very similar, with new fully coded administration for users, and a new system admin panel, and modified it alot ot make it seperate from your base forum, new template engine and all. Very hard work :-p

IDEA: Can't make a forum until you hit a certain post count.
How could you go about doing this with the current version? |

This is an awesome idea. However, it will need some work. As other have suggested, it needs a way to lock it down.
Might I suggest in the ACP you have every possible option that the ACP normally has for creating a forum with the ability to turn each piece off and set the default value. If it is turned off, then the user does not see the option and the value you select is set instead. In addition, having all created forums drop into a ACP set category. Also, instead of having the user put in a display order, have it automatically put in the next available number in that category and don't allow the user to change that (or make it an ACP option). Obviously, an option to turn it off. How about a checkbox option in the usergroup section to allow that group to create forums with the default value being "No". This way we can just allow a certain group the ability to do this. Same suggestion as above, only on the Users prifiles in the ACP. Maybe a search item under the Users|Find options that allows you to search for all users that have that option set to "Yes". Instead of an option to let the user put themselves as moderator, maybe it should just set the moderator to the user that makes the forum. Ooh! Ooh!! One more thing! How about a checkbox in the ACP to allow all moderators the ability to add a sub-forum under one they already moderate. If they moderate more than one, give them a choice as to where they want it. I have too many users on my system and too many of them are children. This hack (although desired) scares the heck out of me. |

Nice, but:
Already said: HTML in description = no no Private forum = no no My "no no"s: Forum parent? - Why not make it so that they can only make this forum a child of an existing forum they have made, and that they can only make their main forum a child forum of a large forum called "User forums" Moderation Options - Why? Style sets? - User's may not like their style set's being overridden Remove this, or at least make it an option in the Admin CP for Admins to decide to allow users that part or not Act as forum - They wont be making categories, so remove this Is active - Of course it will be, so remove this Open for new posts? - Duh...Remove this Allow HTML code in posts? - NOOOOO Allow IMG code in posts? - Again, you could make an option for Admins to decide if their users can do this or not Smilies, BBCode and Icons should be removed and set as yes (via hidden fields) Posts count - Of course they should All those options are unnecessary and/or security risks... Something you may like to add: Afterburner's Password Hack - Allow users to add a password to the forum, but make it so that a new post is inserted into a Mod forum, with the password for that forum in it - This way members can make a "private" forum, but allow their friends in Satan |

I love this idea and can't wait for the store integration.
My members are not problematic at all and if they were they know it'd mean the boot. So I don't have alot of worries or concerns on adding this in, and if you make it cost enough, you can put in there, if you use problematic html code the forum will be removed with no refund to your points. I guess I'm of the belief of if a member wants to cause problems, why are they still a member |

No offense, but that rather niave attitude will change once someone betrays the trust you have in them

i think a hack like this would need a lot of thought i mean it could work if :
the forums was rented for x amount of days there was a cots i.e store addition a limit on the max number of forums at one time restricted by usergroup ran a watered down version* admins can set global forum permissions (such as no html) different levels of features depending on usergroup other ideas : id to show only that forum (special link) optional renting thru paypal of forum for x amount of days watered down admin panel for forum owners can create subforums (x amount per forum) subforum cost additional via paypal *this could be set by usergroup etc i dunno ust some ideas to think of, as at current its just ever so slightly querie intensive depending on the number of forums and then theres the seciurity risk also |
