Article Forums v4.x for vBulletin v4.x

Demo | Version History

Turn a forum into an article forum. Sub-forums are turned into categories.

• Posts/Articles show in searches & in new posts
• Create as many sub-forums/ categories as you need
• Follows forum permissions
• Can still rate thread, etc.
• Different postbits for article and replies (comments)
• Choose what to display in postbit for article and comments
• Choose what to display on articles in vBulletin Options

* Not compatible with 3.7.x forums *

Installation:

1. Upload articles.php
2. Import product file
3. Create a forum in admincp
4. Go to vBulletin Options->Article forum Options

Remember to click Mark as Installed to receive updates and support

Possible Future Additions:

• Make article collapsible
• Allow multiple article forums

Permissions are done through the forum permissions.

let me clarify - what i mean is that if I want to select one of the other authors as the actual author of the article even though I posted it - i can do that? I want to let everyone comment but only want certain people the ability to be able to post articles to that area and no matter who posts the article change who the author displayed is based on who has author rights.

also one more question - how about being able to display the newest items on a non-vbulletin/php page?

You will need a modification for that like this one

You can set forum permissions for being able to reply to topic and being able to post new threads per usergroup in the admincp under forum permissions.

also one more question - how about being able to display the newest items on a non-vbulletin/php page?

You will need to run a query of threads and then join that to posts table and limit it to number of results to display

also at top of forum menu bar - how to change it from being called "Articles" to something else... like "News" or "Tutorials" -- also in the forum top nav how to have it show drop downs of the subcategories (like the Quick Links does)

k will check that out. any chance to have a feature later that has a checkbox for "author" even though someone else is posting the article?

Find Phrase 'articles' and set us translation for it to News or Tutorials

That only happens when I click on one of those forums. All the other non-article forums work properly.

ok - got it - and will post here in case anyone needs details of how:

In the Admin - under Styles & Templates -> Replacement Variable Manager

Then: enter "articles" for the search and then whatever name you want it changed to in the "replace" box

Then you need to also rename the .php file that you originally uploaded from articles.php to newname.php (be sure and also pay attention to "case")
