Updates
==========================
1.0.0 - Initial release

1.0.1 - Bug fix update
? This release addressed a couple of small bugs. Information on fixing
these issues can be found in the FAQ. (Included in this zip.)

1.0.2 - Bug fixes and new features
? This release makes all games on the Arcade main page appear in the
order which they were installed, regardless of whether or not it has
been played. (With the newest games at the top.)
? It includes a
page navigation system, allowing users to browse games by page. By default, 10 games appear per page.
? There is also a new search feature, for finding games by name/description. (Accessible through the "Search" menu in the navigation bar.)
? This release should be less CPU intensive than previous versions.

1.0.3 - Bug fixes
? Security fixes

History & Hack Information
- So, what is the v3 Arcade?
The v3 Arcade is exactly what the name implies - an online games arcade that offers seamless integration with your vBulletin forum.

The v3 Arcade is the first of the new generation of vBulletin additions. Back from its roots, the v3 Arcade is the vBulletin 3 edition of my original Arcade written in late 2002 (not to be confused with futureal's 'ProArcade', which was written during the Arcade's beta phase).

v3 Arcade Features Include:
? Integrated Flash gaming for vBulletin 3
? Advanced leader board system
? FULL Mozilla/Netscape Compatibility
? Moderation abilities for Mods/Super Mods/Admins
? PM & Email notification for events
? Advanced statistics for all users
? A higher level of security
? "Arcade Challenges", 1-on-1 contests between users
? Arcade awards system
? Automated and manual score pruning tools

This installation comes loaded with the following games:
? Tetris
? Snake
? Asteroids
? Chopper Challenge
? Space Invaders

If you have the source (.FLA) for a game that you want to use in the v3 Arcade, you can send the required files to john@v3arcade.com for conversion. (Providing permission has been given by the original author.) Within a reasonable delay, I'll post the converted game and installation script on vBulletin.org.

Testing
Tested on vBulletin 3.0.3, across multiple unhacked installations.

Thanks to...
? Kura: For helping out with vB3 difficulties!
? Erwin: Whose vB2 Flash Player inspired the original hacks
? Paul Neave: For providing the source for 4 of the standard v3 Arcade games

IMPORTANT NOTES
? If you do install this hack, please click on the INSTALL button. There are going to be some updates for this which you're really not going to want to miss!
? Each Arcade page has an Eovie Interactive and Flash Player link at the bottom. This is optional, but greatly appreciated.
? You may have noticed that this release of the v3 Arcade is not fully phrased. To phrase the arcade would require well over a hundred phrases to be added, making for a lengthy installation process! Futures version of the v3 Arcade will be phrased, with a more automated installation.
? And don't forget - BACKUP BEFORE YOU INSTALL!

Regarding the "ProArcade"
There has been a lot of debate on vb.org recently about the ownership of hack "concepts". My original Arcade hack (on which the v3 Arcade is based), was a progression of the my vBTetris Leaderboard hack - both of which came about before the ProArcade. I've spoken to Erwin regarding this, and he can confirm that this has always been an independent development; hence the v3 Arcade was authorised for release.

Fixes
If you're installing the Arcade from scratch, there are no fixes or updates to be applied. Simply follow the instructions in Installation.txt.
If you've already installed the Arcade, make the changes in Updates.txt.

It is my opinion is no matter the age, there will still be use for a lot of (maybe not all) old mods. That can be proven by what I have found in 2 years of posts I have gone through and found plenty of either mods I put in or mods that gave me insight to do something similar.

Again, who out there is qualified to tell me what mods are good or not good for my sites? Not an attack, just a comment.

Now let's continue with this thread in what it was intended for, shall we? v3arcade discussions.
*Bold added to text in quoted matter by me.

Excuse me but that is what I thought I was doing. Just because the convo is con as opposed to pro for this hack does not mean it is not v3arcade related.

I think that the moderators here do not need any other qualification than to be able to make the assessment that a hack could damage a board or is useless. Other than that, the mods here can perform like any other mod by deleting spam, flame and other such corrective measures.

In the present case the v3 Arcade hack is just being kept around due to its past popularity, which has long fizzled out when the author shut off free access to games in an attempt to punish the whole for the sins of a few and when he no longer supports it. The fact that others have to support the hack only highlights this fact.

Is it appropriate to keep it around simply because it was once a good and popular hack? That is the 54 Million Dollar question here. The answer is easy: No. The rationale behind the answer not so easy but here goes: People spend close to $100 for a vbulletin lease and they will shell out almost $200 if they want to own one. The first thing they want to do for the most part is to attract members and to do this requires features. Photo galleries, arcades, RPGs and chat rooms. Of all of these, arcades are the most desired. I know...my members want arcades. The arcades get the most activity at my site and at some of my friends' sites. Where does one get an arcade? Here. Which one do they get? The one under the discussion. It's the one that I got. Now we have an arcade, we need games. The hack only comes with 3 or 4 games which members grow tired of and only come to arcade to see if newer games have been installed. Then it's back to here to see into getting more games. The official v3arcade link takes one to a page where we are told that because a few baddies made a mistake we all must do without.

Is it appropriate to keep it around simply because it was once a good and popular hack? That is the 54 Million Dollar question here. The answer is easy: Yes. Now, this is my opinion. They were made because they were thought to be useful. Maybe they are not "current" because it worked well before or everyone has them. Everyone, that is, that already owns vB. What about the next guy that buyus it? Is it fair to say that he cannot get a hack that was made because a few people's opinions are "it has outlived its usefullness"? I do not think so.

I respect your opinion as I have my own. If you took previous posts as an attack, it was not meant so. I just hope that vB.org does not remove hacks so the next guy that wants to buy vB has the opportunity to decide on his own what is good for his site or not.

Soon! I am entering games into a database now for people to be able to download. A post will come with the link soon. Until then, maybe someone has a FTP already set up. Until I secure my site, I cannot post the link.

I do not see why not. As long as games are not being distributed that owners do not want distributed, then it should not matter. What I will be doing is allowing the uploading of all games for v3 and ibPro whether they are on the banned list or not.

The banned games will be password protected. Those who want games on the banned list will have to get a login ID and password from the game author. I will not provide them. I have already spoken to a couple of the game authors of banned games and have so far not run into any resistance. This way, if they give you the ID and password, you can get a copy of the game that works with v3 or ibPro (or whatever other game system is made for vB). Only game authors I have spoken to will have authorized games on the site available for download.

The domain is there. I just need to get a good anti-leech in place to prevent unauthorized downloads.

That is a cool idea... I was just planning on maybe uploading my collection of over 400 games and letting premium members download them if they choose to.... This is more of just an idea for me right now and nothing I am really planning yet... I have to much other stuff going on...

I wish you luck!!

Hey, I've got an issue that seems more like it's a certain users' computer's fault than the arcade hack's, but I was wondering if someone might have any idea as to what it might be. I haven't heard of this from any other users, but this one particular member will click on the Arcade link and only get a blank page. Status bar on whichever explorer he uses says done, and that's all that ever shows up is just a blank white screen.

Any thoughts?
