What is this?
This simple little code redirects your banned members to a page of your choice. The default URL is http://www.msxlabs.org/banned.php which I think is hilarious. This link was made by NeutralizeR ... Please check post #37 for more links by him! How To: 1. Go to your header template. 2. Paste this at the top: HTML Code:
<if condition="$bbuserinfo['usergroupid'] == 8"> <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.msxlabs.org/banned.php"> </if> Code:

Ok I very rarely come in here and criticise, but I have to agree with wowway1. I come in here to find modifications for vBulletin for which I have PURCHASED a licence. I personally do NOT wish to see "examples" posted here that involve force-quitting my browser to get out of. Do what you wish with your own sites, but not here. It's NOT funny, and I believe the moderators should remove those links.
Quite apart from the links included by Danny-E and ChU v2 being totally inappropriate, the modification itself is quite unnecessary. Ever since the introduction of the plug-in system it has been a relatively simple matter to write a plugin that will redirect specific usergroups - or indeed a series of plugins that can redirect different usergroups to different places. I've already pointed this out in another thread here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....1&postcount=30 With that in mind, I consider this modification to be a waste of space, and clearly of no better value than to permit an opportunity for inconsiderate people to post useless and unwelcome links. :down: |

A simple concept really - but to put it point blankly - the modifications at vB.org are contributed by coders for free - How dare you put down their hard work and sharing with the rest of the vBulletin Community! Jacquii. |

Had it not been for the subsequent links posted by the releaser and others, which caused viewers to force-quit their browsers, I would simply have ignored this, since the modification has little merit. Clearly my assumption that these links were inappropriate has been upheld, since the offending links are no longer present. One should be aware of their facts before levelling critisicm at others, and had you taken the time to read my own post, which I linked to, you would understand why this particular modification is superficial. I seek no credit myself for simply pointing out a facility that already exists, however I stand by my comments. This modification is simply jumping on the bandwagon to claim credit for something that's already incorporated into the vB software. Any coder who is conversant with the plug-in system would be aware that no modification is necessary, apart from writing the simple plug-in I described, in order to effect redirection after log-in. For those who feel this is a better way, please give your thanks to the releaser and click the install button. My complaint was based on the subsequent "examples" that were wholly inappropriate for these forums. |

About the links though- I didn't quite understand what you meant - I suppose you speak of the "tricky" links... Based on the premise of this template modification - seems the links would serve it's purpose well LOL - The premise being: Get off of my site and don't come back - you're banned! Anyway - I'm quite happy when someone shares their coding work, rather it be something that can be found in the immediate vB code and reworked to such a simplistic template mod as "Banned Member Redirect" OR an intricate weaving of code by talents such as the creator of the Interactive Profiles modification == It's the sharing that makes the vB.org Community a community. So when you proceed to cut down someone for sharing - I jumped to a conclusion - so again - apologies for that and no hard feelings. Jacquii. |

Certainly the links in question would have served their purpose very well indeed, but I'm sure you'd agree there's a big difference between presenting them to someone who deserves to be banned, and someone who is innocently perusing a forum such as this.
Perhaps if a warning had been posted, there would have been less reason to criticize. It was extremely annoying having to force-quit with 6 tabs open, and totally unexpected here at vB, which is a site I have great faith in, and respect for. But I completely agree that sharing is what makes a community work, and everyone is free to choose whatever they feel is right for their own site and levels of ability. Perhaps my critisicm of the modification itself was a little harsh, since not everyone is comfortable writing plug-ins, however simple they may seem to those with more experience. Anyways, no hard feelings here either, life's way too short for that. |
