I currently have it so the user only has to type "[ban_me]". Would you prefer it if the user needed the closing tag aswell? Ex. [ban_me]this can't ban me :P[/ban_me]
I tried both ways with a test name and nothing happened. Could it possibly be conflicting with another mod?
I am using v3.6.8 and I have tried this hack using the Ban Me icon, with and without ending tags. It just will not work for me.
The only way it works for me if you edit the post after saving and then it will ban the user. Use a test user doing this or you will ban yourself.
It can be permanent since the user is placed in the "Banned" usergroup. The administrator can search for the user and place him/her into their previous usergroup. This script does not record the user's current usergroup prior to being placed into the "Banned" usergroup so you may have a problem forgetting which users go into which usergroups.
Actually someone needs to type "[ban_me]" not "ban me".
Now it would be good humor if they were explaining how it worked and got banned.
I hardly see the point in this, an option to ban the account for a week or a month or so in the userCP would be better. It could be used when someone goes vacant from the forum for a little while.
If I use just [ban_me] with text [/ban_me] I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/XXXXXXXXXX/public_html/forums/includes/functions_newpost.php(360) : eval()'d code on line 104

I think it's supposed to do with temptation. I think the requester wanted to see who would be dumb enough to use the bbcode.
Alibass, Thank you for pointing out the error. I'll try to fix soon.
Lol, nice hack Maybe you could allow peope to unban to make a button that shows up only for banned users called unban me (and make a different usergroupd for real banned and fake banned)
