There was a topic about vB3 being resource intensive a while back - I can remember agreeing that it was fairly resource intensive. However, the more features you disable the quicker it gets !

My host (DreamHost) doesn't have any problems with vB and/or they haven't complained yet to any of the people using vB. We got a good price from them, so it's good they aren't complaining since I ain't moving .

No, any host who outright bans vBulletin but allows boards like YaBB CGI or uBB.x, is clearly not in their right mind and or overselling their servers. Its sad, over the last few months ive notice alot of good hosts go bad because of these reassons |

vB3 uses more memory then vB2 did, however overall I have no seen much change in server load.

My host - CredibleHost - allows vB3, and I don't see any reason for a host to not allow vBulletin but reccomend phpBB! That's quite weird...
My host uses vB3 on their support forums, and it runs pretty well. My forum, although it isn't active yet, runs great, and the server load doesn't even go past 2.00, but it probably will when the site gets active (site runs on Dual 2.0GHz Xeon with HT, and 2 gigs of RAM, and hosts 132 other sites). A host that disallows vBulletin is not in their right mind and you (thread starter) should move immediately to a reputable host. |

Maybe it is a case of them trying to force their prefered software on their clients. That is what it seems like, or they have really poor servers, or a server that is not configured to distribute load properly. Either way do yourself a favour and move away from there. Also which package are you using and how much is it @ dreamhost?

One time when I was new to vb, I turned on persistant connections and my host kicked me out in a week because it was killing the database -.-;
