Today we have something new

A hack to count how many characters remaining for you in the thread

As we will know that the threads and posts are limited to 10000 characters and if you over typed you will get an error message.

So now with this hack you can free type and know how many characters are remaning for you in this thread.

What about putting something similar on PM page to show the 1000 char limit ?

Great hack! THX

But:

If I edit a post the character counter is still 10000 even if there are more then 100 chars written!

Solution?

Is anyone else having this problem?

The character count for PMs is wrong. I allow 10K chars for posts, but only 1K for PMs. After editing the PM templates, the number of allowed characters are 10K, not 1K.

Follow the instructions, but instead of:

Quote:

use
Quote:
maxLength="$pmmaxchars"
AND instead of:
Quote:
<font class="textfont">Maximum Number of characters
for this text box is $postmaxchars.<br>
You have <B><SPAN id=myCounter>$postmaxchars</SPAN></B>
characters remaining for your description...
use
Quote:
<font class="textfont">Maximum Number of characters
for this text box is $postmaxchars.<br>
You have <B><SPAN id=myCounter>$pmmaxchars</SPAN></B>
characters remaining for your description...
That's it.
