Yup, best bet would be to add a link and description to your sigs in all the forums you post in, add a sig line to your email.
After paying either $85 or $160 for their bulletin software, don't go paying more for a small code modification. |

I'm happy with the money spent on the bulletin software, and the support that can be found in these forums.
Just not the gaul it takes to charge money for vbportal. |

vbportal sounds good but is a tad expensive for what you get

I'm telling you, use PHPNuke.
Check out my website in my sig. The forums look different because I just redid the layout of the main site. But the main site uses PHPnuke. |

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed that the guys who made VB Portal are charging people for it. Most of the stuff that is included in VB Portal has already been released in the 2.x Release forum.
If you really wanted to, you could learn a little PHP, and script all the stuff yourself in under 2 months. It's not hard to copy+paste VB's coding ![]() |

The latest release is 2.01 and it still available and free. The one I'm working on right now 3.0 isn't finished and won't be released to the public until it is. I have allowed my contributing members access to the code and they have been helping with beta testing etc. Very few have been sorry. It's going to be (already is) much better than 2.01.
BTW, the cost of membership is not $35, it's a donation system, where the average donation has been $35, so figure it out. This is something that a lot of the vBulletin boards are having to do. A great number of my members have never donated $$$ but some have come back and donated a second and third time, just to help. Anyway, I'm not trying to rip anyone off, just trying to keep it going. |

I could be wrong from visiting your vbNuke Powered Site qwaz, but its hard to get an opinion on it when its not there
![]() vbPortal is a nice bit of work, I didnt pay for it at all, and quite honestly I don't want to get into the "wajones is crazy for charging" crap. It's been covered here and covered at phpportals. I am curious if you are a contributing member over there? Or have you "somehow" gotten the software from another source? I can't see someone just shouting out that something is crap without trying it first. Now fonzerelli_79, let me put my extra 2 cents in. vbPortal is a nice front page for a vbulletin site. Yes, you could sit down and hack every part of it together yourself, if you know PHP and MySQL, (which I am assuming you dont, sorry if Im wrong) and it would work *much* better than vbPortal does (or nuke for that matter) because you have *only* what is needed for your site and nothing more. What vbPortal offers is a simple solution to that with a minimum amount of work. You can install nuke, but you will still have to hack it to intergrate it with vb. And if your going to go that far why not try Post-Nuke or PHP Website, both of which last time I checked 0wn3d Nuke in a big way. What it comes down to is it all depends on you and the amount of effort you want to put into doing it. ![]() ![]() |

I agree with Bane.. and of course wajones.
It is hard to say something BLOWS.. or sucks.. if you have not tried it... and I mean the latest version. I know people might get frustrated or a little mad cause it is on a donation system. But if you think about the amount of time not only spent on it, but supporting it you can understand that. I have spent my fair share helping people set them up, and answering questions.. so I am not speaking from left or right field.. ![]() And yes you, me, my dog, can make up something like this.. and if you want just a portal system or a news posting system as your frontpage, shall I even suggest a few hacks in the hacks section that are made just for that... where you can intergrate them into like a frontpage with news, and whatever else your creativeness can conjour up.. yes I also feel that PostNuke and phpWebsite are better than phpnuke, even though nuke is always improving on. I would rather spend my time on other things, like addons and whatever else... instead of spending it on intergrating phpnuke and vb.. that is why I and so many use vbportal. For one, a lot of us have minimal knowledge of php and it would take awhile and a lot of frustrating days/nights to get it to be where vbportal already is. And yes vbportal 2.0.1 is free, and can easily be found. Which works and will do the job that you want. And like wajones said.. you are not PAYING.. and I will repeat that again.. you are not PAYING for vbportal 3.0. You are contributing to the cause, and to the time and money spent not only to create it, but to give it a home and it's own support forums. Everyone is going to have their views on this, and I am not for one going to bad mouth any of them. Nor will I bad mouth any products I myself have not personally used or atleast played with. The first version of vbportal a long time ago.. umm it was called nuke2vb.. had me frustrated to no ends.. but I stuck with it... and I have LEARNED A LOT! from vbportal. I am not spectacular at php, or anything... well besides sleeping.. but wajones and many others have answered questions and helped me get through different things throughout my time with vb and php. So I support vbportal, and wajones fully! But that is just me.. take what you want, leave the rest.. or take nothing at all ![]() But please don't bad mouth something that you have not played with, or bad mouth it, because of the costs.. |
