I use to run a 250 line MajorBBS / Worldgroup network.
Lots of external modems

100's of door games, MajorMUD, Tradewars 2002, L.O.R.D. and others.
I still have a valid TW2002 server license. I may have to put up a server again.

Played Majormud for years on local BBSes. One of them is still online but you connect via telnet now - http://coffeebbs.com/

In the late 80s through mid 90s, I worked on several DLX based boards. They didn't have external programs like games and were centered around chatting more than anything but the code was put into the public domain in 92 or 93 so it was easy to get ahold of and modify for several different things. Largest I was involved in was 16 lines. It ran off a 286 with two 8 modem boards installed.
