this sounds very interesting. why isn?t this a standard feature? I have looked up the demo on this page and thought, that is already possible, isn?t it? I would also vote for adding this in a future release or tell how to do it. by the way: this forum is really great, even better than ikonboard. bye mcpeak |

but I still can?t understand why this wasn?t added allready in the final release, that it can?t be difficult, if you allready have done such a great job with the temp/style system! |

I can see definite problems with matching the template used in the user control panel to the custom style assigned to a single forum.
This would certainly be confusing, especially for my board where the template is so radically different from the defaults. Perhaps, NORRITT, a solution for you would be to change the user control panel template to something "style-neutral" ? For example you can make a simple clean white page that looks nothing like any of your templates, this would go with any set of templates. In my board, I added target="_blank" to all the user control panel links so they open in a separate window - seems to make more sense this way, YMMV. |

Hi Vinnie, thanks for your suggestion, but if you come from a very colourful subboard this would be very strange for the visitors.
This isn?t really confusing. Not for the users and not for the admin. This is already possible to change colors and the template in the admincenter also for this areas of the forum, but the forum nevertheless uses the default style. one of the dev team already said, that this would be possible with a hack, but unfortunately I?m not experianced with php and have not the money to pay someone for this service. well, ok, i will wait, until someone has a simillar problem or until Ikonboard ( www.ikonboard.com ) is out. greets NORRITT |

How can you even mention Ikonboard in here?
PHP beats Perl just like broiling beat frying. And, Ikonboard doesn't use a database which means you won't be having very much fun at the pary going past 150,000 registered users or so. The list of missing features in Ikonboard is LONG. |

Ok, iB 2.x is poor of features (but free) and the Version 3 is getting really great. It isn?t out right now, but in few days I?m sure we will see the first beta. Well, it will support 3 databases and one flat file system (idatabase, mysql and mssql I think, but about he first one I?m not sure). All these you will be able to select in the admincenter, which to use. the layout is also really nice (by the way: the new blue design of vB is really close to the ikonboard.com design, which is already about one month old!!!!) see here some "screenshots" of the new admincenter: http://www.jreednet.com/ibv3admin/ and don?t tell it is ****, if you have no clue about it! |

Alright, both of you cut it out.
Perl is not necessarily worse than PHP or vice-versa. There will be no iB bashing here, either. |

Did I make a mistake? I thought most PHP implementations are optimized for web servers, which typically service many concurrent requests. Perl requires being launched as a separate process (I think) where PHP instances can be re-used from a pool.
Is this not the case? I have no idea IkonBoard was about to release a version that supports databases. I looked at that admin panel and it looks very good. Kinda like a copy of ... vBulletin!!!! I didn't mean to bash, objectively speaking the shipping version of ikonBoard is simply LESS than vBulletin in all ways I mean that is obvious by looking. I evaluated all of the available bulletin board solutions in terms of features and scalability. |
