The reason that the width of the website is fixed instead of fluid is largely because of the "featured review" banner. I couldn't find a method that I actually liked of displaying it in different dimensions, a fixed width was the easiest option..

i actually used a very good idea for a style i did with a fixed feature. make the image for the feature a background image. make the image the width of a very large resolution. make the focus however within the first 800 to 1024 pixels. works great

only problem is the portal/landing page. you can't navigate without javascript and that's a no no!
