From my own personal view everyone needs to calm down, take a step back and think about whats going on - Thats staff and members alike...
I've kept out of the discussions actively, mostly because I know most of what I come out with will either be used as fuel for the fire, or change the target of agression to myself... However I think most people now have had their rants over and done with, and perhaps are ready to think reasonably through things instead of rising to the "bait" that has been left... The conduct from both staff and members has been questionable in regards to this matter over the last few days - Emotions are high, people are making rash decisions and falling out rapidly with everyone... Lets hope we can get some good out of this Chris |

Thank you Chris M, I trust some good will come of this and the threads will re-appear.
It's off-putting to have bookmarked 40-50 posts that had valuable info in them, posts that I could reference to maintain the modifications on my board and continue to learn from, only to come back and see none of the bookmarks work. I understand the "policy" but this is a case where the "policy" needs to be reviewed. Quote:
No, I don't want to "be" anything. I spent many hours reading those threads. I bookmarked helpful posts and responded to many users trying to share the knowledge I'd gained in them. And there was more knowledge in there for me to absorb. I was an active participant and they were resource I appreciated and relied upon. Those hack threads contained the support that made me feel comfortable installing many of the hacks on my forum, and my forum's identity and atmosphere is now defined, in large part, by them. And now none of my bookmarks work. Just because the attachment was removed, does that mean all that valuable information should be removed too? This was done without the author's permission, in fact the author granted his permission for continued use in existing installations. The policy of thread deletion is under review, I understand. I will wait and see what they decide. Deleting these massive threads is imbecilic. Locking or archiving I can understand. But to delete them harms the community and robs it of a valuable resource. |
