Does the HOTM take into account for Template Modifications (and possibly Styles) too? If yes, it has the potential of taking things to an entirely different level. Whether it'll represent well against the other categories is another story, however.

nope, right now just code mods are taken in account

template mods don'T get enough installs right now to be in that poll, but we might add something like that for styles as well

Doing a hot style might be a good idea. It might be an incentive for the really good designers to release a free style, which they generally don't do. Of course, the problem with a style getting a lot of installs is that you don't want your site to look like everybody else's

The advantage of template mods and custom styles is that the users, if willing, have the ability to further tweak the layout to show a bit of their personality. Anyone with minimal knowledge in HTML/XHTML/CSS/Javascript/graphics can dip their hands and apply layout changes. That's the beauty of it. The difference in styles, however, is a matter of creative level and know-how.

I think it's great for styles to be considered - not that it should be the primary incentive for helping others - as it is part of the modification process.
