Well it's pretty pointless if it's open to everyone, it will be no different to the existing forums - just start filling up with misplaced threads and general junk.

It needs to be private because the coders have asked for such a place for years. And to give it to them and then let even unlicensed people in there is an insult. It tells the people who make this site possible through their contributions that their needs don't matter.

Big Boards is a great addon to learn new things from experienced minds

Both forums are a nice idea, might probably take me years to get there :P
I don't think they should be private^^ People who currently don't have enough experience to take part in the discussions in these forums (like me^^ might learn a lot by reading the threads in there. Quote:

I can't see why it hasn't been made private either and I'm with the coders on this one - if vborg staff are in any doubt, start a poll/thread that only coders can vote in to ask if they would prefer it private or public (it is their section afterall).
What would be the point of having the section if coders won't use it? Same with the big boards forum (although I think this really should be at vb.com) If people can't get what they want here or or begin to feel disenfranchised, they may go elsewhere - I'm sure that's not wha'ts wanted by any of us tho. |

I'm new to vB (just bought a license over a month ago). On a different board I use to run I was known for template styling and editing. With vB I think I'll be going the same route as I'm a non-coder by its core definition.
Communities such as vB.org and .vB.com I come here not only to be inspired but to learn from the other members. While we each have our own talents, we're all grouped by the common interest of our boards. Being able to read within a dedicated forum helps me to understand better what goes into the minds and their creations for the purpose of further development. Unless the dedicated forums are preserved for projects that are currenly in process, for someone like myself I could benefit having access there. |

"There are currently no public usergroups available for you to join."
Last time I checked, I was a coder. |

Cool, although I don't really understand the purpose of the requirement to join a usergroup in order to access Coders' Discussion.
