This is great. I have so many users that come from myspace and leave because the forums seem to hard to them. Where to go to change your avatar, your sig(whats a sig) ha Don't see how it is so hard for them but it is. To have something more user friendly would be great and improve how long new members stay to give the message board a chance.

I have been asking for this for about 2 months now. Is there anyway you can include in your mod a way for the private messages to resemble myspace or at least have the person avatar next to the PM. The PM section is soooooooo boring. But have it where if a person has avatars off it wouldn't show in the PM area. Some users are at work and want things as simple as possible.

I know you say this is free. But you guys deserve something for your efforts. Nice to see Stangsta in such a giving mood. I remember when i had to pay for his help with my member profiles.

I just found this thread after reading and finding out the scam that was vbspace. I have a really sour taste in my mouth at the way those people handled themselves but I won't turn this into a hate on vbspace thread even though they deserve it.

I'm so happy that you guys are spending the time to create a decentralized version for us poeple who do not want to share their memberbase. As was just said: SHOW ME THE DONATE BUTTON!!

Most of my suggestions have already been mentioned but I would like to repeat them:

- capability of username.domain.com

The will really create a sense of the user having their own space on your site. Its easy and fun to put in signatures on other forums and in email and even works to draw other people into your community because who wouldn't want a website domain with your name in it. Its just a cool thing to have.

- photogallery

This is perhaps the most important feature to me. I run a car site and I will be using this hack to allow people to post pics of their cars and have them rated. I know there is a hack called vbgarage for this purpose but its really lacking in features and I don't want to touch it.

- customizable searchable user entry fields

For the car site I need people to be able to choose their make and model of car form a dropdown menu and have it searchable. I'm not sure what applications this might have in a non car site. Perhaps if I wanted to search for someone who's main interest was sports or politics lets say?

- members displayed by rating, most views, date registered, posts, interests, car, in ascendng or descending etc....

This would be a great way to find members your looking for and that releate to your interests (or in my case your type of car).

- users can group themselves together and start clubs.

Useful for car sites because there are so many car clubs and my site is a great place to offer them free picture hosting and a place to organize themselves. Clubs could also have their own private forum which they can choose to make public or not. You know it might be cool for non car sites too. I'm a member of a politics site where paying members have their own private forums and can invite people in and such.

The rest of the features are pretty basic things of social networking sites like what The Chief already posted in message 82 of this thread.


My main competitor is a site called monchar.com (french for mycar.com..its worth a look). They use a custom solution and its amazing. They went from nothing to greatness in under 2 years. I'm limited to my VB existence so I'm hoping this hack might bring my site at least on par with them.

btw I'm trying to figure out what the differnece is between this hack and the myspace profile re-write?

Well yeah, when someone wants me to fix problems on thier site or install hacks etc, of course im going to charge. My spare time is valuable to me and at the same time, I enjoy the work.

NO MONEY TALK IN THIS THREAD. NONE. Please. Help save my sanity and help actually keep DEVELOPMENT conversation going. I don't want to have to keep reading every word of thread to make sure that it doesn't go south like the other one. Please. just keep the conversation on the features and the code.

I agree fully, money should not even be an issue to any , it is not to us this is for the community, and for our communitys as well.

Hi Chief, Stangsta, DannyITR. I agree 100% with VBintense's initiative.

VBspaces really pumped us all up, and I would like to put in a quick two cents. Myself and many other VB users (Chief and Stangsta especially) were posting like crazy on the VBspace hack thread and we were supporting it all the way. For Danny to turn it around into some centralized service and scrap the whole idea of releasing a public hack with full source code to everyone who has been patiently waiting, I find that to be a big slap in the face. I like the Zoints idea, but I hate how it was presented in a very tricky manner.

Basically, any features that were in the old VBspaces discussion as well as the features DannyITR meantioned, I would be happy with. Basically make a single hack that lets users customize sweet looking profiles, is one of the biggest features. Very feature-rich ajax-driven user profiles that have a big emphasis on social networking, friends/buddies, and discussing with friends, as well as creating groups.

Thats what I would really want, and was expecting from Danny, until the recent news about Zoints.

What do you guys thinks??

I believe thats what is planned. Although not a full blown mod right away. Going to release things to get started and then add to them or allow other coders to make "plug-ins" to add to this hack/mod. But I dont believe it will be ajax driver like zoints ( although I do like the zoints ajax system, just not centralization of it ).

You sir are correct

AJAX "may" play a part towards the end of the final release, but im not going to lie....dont hold your breath.

Please don't blame Danny for anything, he is helping code that project. He does what is asked of him as you would if your boss at your job would ask of you. Danny had a vision and an idea, and others ran with it and included him.

By the way, how come certain discussions on Zoints are being closed by admins and not given a straight answer? And why was the old VBspace thread COMPLETELY TAKEN DOWN. If it was closed I'd be ok with it, since the hack discussion is over, but ERASING IT from member's view is not cool. I heard it was because of talk of it being a commercial hack. Thats not true, it was always said to be free, and the final service, Zoints, IS free. Hopefully it is still there and just changed permissions while the admins "review" it, because I want to go over that thread and make a large list of everything us, VB.org members, discussed and said we wanted in that hack so that I can compile a list of features that we can talk about when making our own VBspaces hack the way it was supposed to be done.

If an admin can respond to this, please do!

Oh, I am not blaming Danny for everything. Far from it. Danny started the thread, but he became part of the Zoints project, so he isn't the sole person incharge. As you said, he is a coder (and a superb one at that) who is just following orders.

I had a LOOOOONG MSN chat with the new owner/founder of Zoints tonight (in the past 3 hours). He answered a lot of my questions and has made it clear the direction and vision that Zoints is headed as well as talk about the publically released version. I will not make any official statement on what we discussed in the chat, as David (whom we know as "d1414") said he would make an public statement of his own when the time feels right.
