GRPS: Groups Commune 2.0.x Details »» | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Welcome ladies and gentleman, this is the release thread for GRPS, an interactive groups commune. I hope you enjoy this release and i sincerely hope it provides everything to your community in which you're looking for.
What is it? It's a groups commune. The original idea is that forums with lots and lots of forums on the front-page suck, as a result i thought most of the conversation was rather obscure in regards to what the forums were trying to achieve, so it'd be nice to have that all going on elsewhere, not detracting away from the content and stopping your front-page from looking like a car crash. Features?
Special Thanks to harry1951, without his help testing and his recommendations, this would've never ended up the way it did. Honestly, i can't think of anything else, if you appreciate the work gone into this mod, please donate (in GBP) (right click open in new window) Hopefully you all appreciate that i just relaunched my site and rather than soak up the atmosphere there or go out drinking i came to release this tonight. Screens below, rest to your right Please note this mod does work with 3.5.x PLEASE DO NOT JOIN MY SITE IN A BID TO PLAY WITH IT OR HAVE A LOOK AT IT FURTHER, MY SITE IS SOMETHING I VALUE FOR BEING SOMEWHERE I CAN CHILL AT, IT'S NOT A TEST SUITE OR DEMO! I upgraded from 2.0.3 to 2.0.5 but seem to have lost some of the option language. Under "If you would like to use the vertical postbit as opposed to the default horizontal one, then set this option to yes", the next three are blank, though there is a Yes/No option, then a text box with 50 in it and a text box with 100 in it. Can someon tell me how to get those back?

Im just wondering... before i even knew this hack exist, i already have my forums with multiple subforums which act like groups. It has many threads in it. I was wondering for the next version, if it's possible to make a function that lets you move or dump existing thread on the forum to the groups created by this hack?

I would say that is unlikely since this hack doesn't use any of the VB datastore or prebuilt storage/search systems. It looks a LOT like VB, but in reality it is an island within your site. No search, no extensible permissions, extremely limited administrator functions.
This looks like a great hack, and I know it would be popular on my site, but I can't turn the water on without knowing that I have the ability to turn it off. It would quickly overgrow itself and our ability to manage it. |

That's why i wish there was some sort of an importer that let's you read vb threads and dump it into this hack. I should be possible.

I've installed this, but have not done any template edits until I can confirm that it's working (maybe that's my problem?). Everything seems to be ok except for a couple little things:
1. Breadcrumb: It displays "mysite.com Groups" but when clicked, it takes me back to my homepage, not the groups home. I would like to have it as "Mysite.com" > "Groups". Where is it even setting the breadcrumb? I can't find this anywhere. 2. Footer: It's replacing the link to "Mysite.com" in the footer with "Mysite.com Groups", but once again, it goes to the home page, not the groups home. I would like 2 separate links here, one for the home page, one for the groups page. I can do this with a template edit, but I'll need to disable this automatic link replacement. Where is this?? Info on my install: Forums are in ./forum Groups are in ./groups I am using vbadvanced EDIT: Also, I noticed that when someone is viewing groups, it shows they are on the homepage in WOL. Thought that might help... |

Ok, well I figured out the renaming problem, but still would like assistance with the breadcrumb. I still have no link back to the groups home in the breadcrumb links.
