Verify Email Before Registration Details »» | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tested and working in vb 4.2.3
Product Description: Verify Mail before registration , and during update profile information (changing mail for members from usercp) This Product: Stop spam at the first order, it works to prevent the registration with anonymous mails, in order to ensure Forum mail arrives (Newsletters - Subscriptions - Contact members .. etc.), to emails properly and effectively. no member will be registered , or admitted to the database (both in group waiting activation or any other group), unless the mail is true. As if there was not a failed attempt to register. What are the anonymous mails? Are the emails that can not access by its owner, and browsed. Whether it was a mail already exists (used by another person), or not. As long as no member can or the new Registrar (who wrote this mail), access to the inbox in the mail will be an anonymous mail, and reject his request. Installation: Just Import The product from AdminCP. The product Will begin work as soon as the product installed. You can manage the product settings from AdminCP > Settings > Options > Verify Mail before registration. Enjoy Big thanks to ForceHSS for his help with ironing out the spelling issues To update, just import via Products in admincp, tick overwrite PLEASE UPDATE Last version had SQL issue, this is fixed now in this version IMPORTANT If you running Rename register.php by BOP5 you need to edit 2 templates https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=297834 1st search in languages for Code:

If you are talking about the example link thing on the footer thats from a custom mod and you would need to ask in that mod how to hide it in that page

I seem to be having issues with this mod NOT forwarding the persons birthdate.
After they register and you go into ACP > Users and look them up, their birthdate is not recorded. Can someone please look into this? |

There's already CAPTCHA in registration. Why would you want it twice?

Read the thread. You'll get a ton of bots signing up. Then your server sends out a ton of bad email. Then you get blacklisted. Not good...

How can you tell if its a bot that registered, verses a person? I have noticed that almost everyone that has signed up since this has been installed does not have a birth date registered, could those be bots? How are they getting pass the built-in captcha? |

There are millions of spam-bots that go out and look for cataloged registration mechanisms they can exploit and register, same bots can also post posts as well as inject home page links in accounts. The bot senders can send these out much more effeciently that human spammers.
You really cant tell if they are bots, but after awhile you tend to be able to recognise them. The birthdays dont necessarily mean anything. The built-in captcha, even recaptcha, is flawed and bots can brute force them or recognise the captcha text to get in. If you have used vbresults spam blocker, you can see that most bots register in 5 seconds or less. Can you type that fast on the registration form? |
