Turn your vBulletin Album system to an organized Gallery. Watch presentation!

The basic idea of Scandal's vBGallery is to organize vBulletin Albums AND forum attachments (pictures) to a section with lots of functions (categories, search, latest objects, statistics, menus etc).
Designed for vBulletin 4.2.0 (otherwise you must add the navbar links manually).



Features:
- Categories system for Albums (like Forums for threads)
- Five (5) levels of subcategories allowed
- Album, picture and comment search
- Who browsing Gallery (= Gallery Home, Albums, Pictures)
- Gallery statistics
- Forum attachments gallery (with ability to act it as category)
- Pages: latest pictures - latest albums - latest comments (with feature to turn them to "All")
- "My Comments" feature (display all user comments)
- My Pictures/Albums in "this" category
- Ability to set custom statusicons to categories
- Notifications to users with "uncategorized" albums to move them
- Ability to hide empty categories (= with 0 albums)
- Admincp environment
- No annoying copyright info

Installation:
1. Upload all files of folder "upload" to your forum root.
2. Import *xml product.
3. (Important) Open template album_edit and find:

Upgrade:
1. FIRST OF ALL: Upload and replace all files of folder "upload" to your forum root.
2. THEN: Import XML product with "Allow Overwrite" to YES.

Who can view vBGallery;
Access to vBGallery has all members who belongs to usergroups with "Can View Albums" to YES.

What if I decide to turn off or uninstall vBGallery;
You are back to Albums without data lose (except the category of each Album - function of this hack).

How could I change the size of Gallery's thumbnails?
vBGallery use the thumbnail size you have set via admincp. To change it go to:
Admincp > Options > Message Attachment Options
... and set your value to "Thumbnail Size"
... afterwards you must rebuild attachment thumbnails at: Maintenance > General Update Tools > Rebuild Attachment Thumbnails

I think this requires Imagemagick?

I got this while uploading, my VB is definitely set to GD though:

    gv062912dAPR20120629054512.jpg - Imageinfo Failed:

    sh: /usr/bin/identify: No such file or directory

    holb_c10058120120629120100.jpg - Imageinfo Failed:

    sh: /usr/bin/identify: No such file or directory

I went ahead and installed imagemagick just for this and the error went away.

I been looking to find a replacement for PP ( a importer would be great) as people have suggested
I think this will be the replacement for Photopost from what I have read so far! The support alone sold me
The next time I have a sec I will grab this and be testing it

Wow Hippy, thank you very much

At any rate [Scandal's] vBGallery uses vBAlbums and Forum Attachments (= default vBulletin's features) and this is one of its benefits. I'll try to keep [Scandal's] vBGallery up to date with new features and compatible with next version of vBulletin.

Maybe develope importers (Photopost/Photolog to Scandal's vBGallery and vB Albums), but currently I can't promise something.

the one thing you should consider is that this isn't a 'pure gallery' solution because it uses VBs built in gallery functions as its basis. I doubt VB will ever create an importer, I don't think they have created importers for any galleries as of yet.

There are also things a pure gallery will give you that this wont, for example mass imports, advanced user functions, format controls such as end user displays etc.

Now to be sure this is a good mod and its premise is sound. What Scandal has done is to create and package all the things VB should have done to VB's gallery functions. You will still have VBs limits, regardless of the packaging however.

I own licenses for Photopost and PP Vbgallery and use them both. In my setup I think the best solution is to install Scandals Vb Gallery mod in addition to a PP Gallery. Here is my personal rational:

1. Vb mobile apps and the VB itself use the built in gallery and replacing it is just not an option with other packages. None offer any deep integration that would do it. Example: Social Group galleries etc. Also, the only image functions on the mobile apps is currently the built in VB gallery function. So you need VBs galleries adn the ebst way to do that is with this mod, Scandals work.

2. My PP and PP VbGallery are for the big galleries on my site that users usually dont upload images into. I am reworking my entire site and galleries but together there are more than 1,000,000 images that will be re-included. There is no way to sanely get that amount of photos or images into VBs built in gallery function.

3. Pure galleries will offer you more ways to display your images. For example I have thousands of 5000px or larger photos and to include them in VB, if it was possible, would mean I would need to change those file limits for the board, not just the gallery.

4. On large, and I mean large, galleries PP is more efficient. It was built for photos and nothing else. So there will always be a larger set of options for gallery owners.

I think there is a place for both in a final forum setup. Scandals gallery is definitely a must have for any VB owner. Like I said, it fixes VB and does a better job of using built in vb gallery functions than VB has ever done. Personally I think they should just hire Scandal and let him work on it from here on out

So my site will have a 'Members Gallery' which consists of Scandals mod, a 'Photo Gallery' based on PP Vbgallery to show off the sites larger and more numerous images and finally a separate PP gallery for the purchasing and downloading of larger HQ photos.

Scandal has done a lot of work and I am personally grateful there are programmers like him that do excellent mods like this one. Otherwise awe would all have VB clones with little personalization

I've had a PP licenses since 2001 / 2002 give or take a month
Scandal should go over there and recode PP
and integrate it to vb
I'm so tired of the robot answers there.

This is a superb mod! I installed it yesterday and it works a treat, maybe with one exception, or maybe it is just me

When I create an album, it automatically goes to the default "uncategorized" category. There is no option to choose a category. In admin CP, I can see the albums, but when I click on an album to edit, there is still no option to change the category.

I'm sure I've probably just missed a simple tweak. Any ideas please?

Would it be possible to add permissions allowing us admins to specify which usergroups can add to album? - i.e. people can make their own, as normal but admins can create a album of an event (for exampel) and everyone who went to that event can upload their images to that album..
