Send email or SMS cellular text Message to Buddies

I've had this idea in my head for a while, and stumbled across it on another web site.

I would like to have the ability for members to send emails to one or all of buddies in the buddy list.

I also wanted the option for users to send SMS text messages (the options would require the user to enter the phone number and then select from a drop down list that we create the service provider).

Here is an example of what I want to do.

I would be happy with the same option but for VB 3.5.4

The buddy list could be created using entered data or in conjunction with the VB one.

Oh and it would need to be easily updated (IE new @cellular_provider_text_message_email.com)

Any help. I am continuing my search here to try and locate something that could do this or be a platform to set this up with.

Perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction.

I can probably do this in one of two ways.

II can make it so a user add the phone or email into a private field in their profile. I can then design it to pull from that field if the user sending it is in the buddy list of recipient.

or

I would prefer to make it sender completed where the user adds the information (because he knows the person) to a field in their buddy list that associates with the buddy. Then have the option to send an email or text to all users they select from their buddy list.

I was wondering where to start.

Any advice. I have managed to collect a list of our @serviceprovider text message emails so sending the sms to cells would be very easy. I would need to also be able to update and adjust these values as it may change or need to be updated dependant upon the location of visitors to our site.



I'm a noob to programming.
To save the information or allow a user to add "a note field" or a field period about a buddy. (like an address book so to speak) How would or where should I start at setting this up?

I am not sure how to tell the the file msg.php (which I'm making) to store the information to the database.
