They are NOT the same thing, just "alike" to a point. I personally use the vbportal system available here and while its true there's a fee, its very small, very affordable for what you get. Support group and users are top-notch and helpful. The system works pretty darn good.
Vbadvanced is good too.. sure, its free.. but I won't try and sway your choice... you can run BOTH of them on the same site and choose for yourself.

You need only "look" at the index page of either system and see for yourself that they aren't the same. Close, but no cigar.
