remove icons next to subforums

I've noticed that there are like 50 little icons on my forum page that I'm thinking of removing..

I've added a screen shot so u know what I'm talking about...

I have my forums setup as subforums,, How can I remove these icons on the index page ?

and if not remove, then maybe Only show if there is a new post.. but really if I can remove them, that would be best

I'd like to remove a few image from the index page,, help speed things up.. maybe I should just look for a new style with less images
