Members validate themselves
All right, here's the deal.
Rulebreakers who use "I didn't know it wasn't allowed!" as an excuse annoy me a lot, so what I'm planning to do once I get my vB set up is to try to simply delay the sending of the validation e-mail until a special page (linked to in the rules but not accessible from anywhere else) is entered. Entering that page, provided that you're a pending member, would automatically send your validation e-mail, you would receive it exactly like normal, and everybody would be happy. Would it be possible to make a hack like that? Hmm... *pokes thread* I'm not bad at scrutinizing code and messing around with it so it ends up working like I want it, so you don't necessarily need to write the hack for me, just so you know; just tell me if something like that would be possible/easy to do. |

I would rather like to hear if anybody can tell me how easy/hard that would be.

There is already a rules hack that will show the rules until you have checked an agree box. Once you have done that you are taken to the forums.

I have considered that, but the thing is that people never read stuff like that. They just scroll down and click "I agree".
With this system, they'd actually have to enter the rules page and get to the bottom of it, which would at least hopefully mean they at least skimmed them through. Nothing would tell them they need to go to the rules page and click a link there. |
