Default If you've ever had content swiped from your site, you might want to try this:

I posted a short while back that a large news site had lifted a copyrighted quiz from my site and posted much of it on their own site as their work.

I tried emailing them and got no response.

So, I went to http://www.consumerhelpweb.com and had them pursue it. Today, I checked, and the quiz has been pulled from their site.

No, I didn't get the apology that I requested, but I did get my stuff off their site.

Amy

Forgive me for my ignorance, but how does one lift something like a quiz from a website? Is it copied/pasted, did they ftp it? Isn't a quiz embedded, so to speak, as it has to be installed, or is this standalone? I'd like to know that way I can figure out how to go about preventing this from happening to my own site.

You can copy the content. Basically note down the questions then take the quiz and it usually tells you which are the correct answers. Note them down, and hey presto, you have just copied their entire quiz.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not endorse doing this.

Glad you got it sorted Amy

You're right, David. It doesn't always help. But, it can. Public shaming can work wonders at times.

Amy - i know what ur on about - I was admin on a site for 5 years - i asked for 2 years to get a forums boards working there - and i kept getting told - we cant get them becase they are PHP and our server is ASP based - installing php would take 2 much effort.

I decided to start my own site , and left theirs - handed in my notice - 3 weeks after my site was up and running .... low and behold the old site i was admin in had the same version of boards as i had - the same chatroom login - pretty much all the ideas i had for my site - they had copied - the old site was basically just a chatroom until 3 weeks after i had started.
I had 2 bad 2 IP's from the site cause i noticed they were on the site day and night - never joined , and were browsing all pages.

Loads of people even said back to me ... Jeez , they blatently copied your site ... but theres nothing really i can do about it since theres enuf changes in the sytle to make it different, but all the concept ideas are the same.

Some people just cant get good ideas for themselves.
