Changing and Customizing the "From" line in sent emails

Hi Everyone,

I have a long forum title, and that long title is sent as the "from" line in emails sent to my forum members.

I don't want to change my email title, so what code or file (or better yet, template) do I need to change so that I can choose a custom email "from" line without changing my BB title name.

Would I need to change the mail.php file?

If so, any idea where?

if you are sending email via the admincp/USERS/SEND EMAIL interface leave the FROM line empty

I received a comment that since my forum title was very long, that it looked akward with such a long name on the email from name.

I will try to make that change now.

Is there any way to add a custom replacement value for the forum board title?

Hi princeton,

I tried to modify the VALUE of the x_mailer phrase, and it did not affect the "From" line of the email.

Perhaps I misunderstood...

Is there some .php code that I should change that includes the x_mailer phrase?

default 'x_mailer' phrase is

{1} Forums

{1} will be replaced with bbtitle; so, if your title is 'RUSSIAN MEETING PLACE' the FROM field will look like RUSSIAN MEETING PLACE Forums.

If you don't want it to look like

RUSSIAN MEETING PLACE Forums

than replace

{1} Forums

with

RM Place

I thought that I did replace the {1} with Russian Meeting Place, and it didn't seem to work.

Perhaps I sent myself a test email before I made the change (without refreshing the send email page).

Hi princeton,

I checked, and the x_mailer value is "Russian Meeting Place," but when I send an email to myself via the board, the from line still includes the entire forum title.

Any other ideas?
