Default Hack Creators should provide exact instructions for uninstalling hacks.

I'm sorry I'm a n00b, but I got really messed up with the ecDownloads hack, and since it was a product, I assumed uninstalling the product would uninstall the hack, oh no. I had to go in and delete things from the database, thanks to another user pointing them out. I was unable to add new usergroups because the hack left blank permission settings after I uninstalled the xml.

I just think that would be a huge help to people. It's happened to me before, where I needed to uninstall a hack but had no idea how to, and users has to help me through it.

Just a suggestion.

We try. But, at least for me, code packaging is not always my strongest point. I tend to be better at getting things working than in getting them newbie-friendly.

Before you install a mod, you may want to ask if it has uninstall capability. That way, you won't get stuck again.

Yeah good point. Its not that bad because most hack creators are there for support, but then there are those few creators who make a hack and disappear.

Guess you just have to exercise caution with what you install.

if you refer to Ron1n to have disappear, i would prefer you use the term "took some vacation after a lot of support on these tools he wrote lately"...

if you explain your problem clearly in the hack thread, someone will be able to help by the time Ron1n returns...

I'd actually love to see more hacks with uninstall information.. Sometimes I goof, and the backwards directs make it alot easier to go back and clean things up. Then there's those rare cases where you decide you don't need the hack after all, uninstall instructions can help you clean up extra database tables that don't need to be there!

with the new Products Management, we will have a complete install/uninstall/manage system, so more coders will use it... actually, coders are cold to use it because most of them waits for the Gold version of the 3.5...

Oh no, I didnt mean that at all. LOL. I am very grateful for the work they put into these. The hack simply wasn't for me, and Ron1n wasn't around to help with the uninstall, so it would be nice to have instruction on how to uninstall.

I`m not too bad with uninstalling things I no longer need/like myself. I am not a coder, however I`m learning PHP at the moment in hope giving back some of what I have recieved. Most of the guys on here that develop hacks are great on support. Some may not get back to you for a couple of week because they ain`t around, on holiday, or simply have given that much support over the past month they`re having a rest. I do somewhat agree with putting uninstallation instruction within the package, but you will get some, as already stated that are not sure on this themselves.

The other thing I would say is that if you are going to uninstall a hack and you are not sure what you are doing, ask the question first. Don`t just go ahead and do something your not sure of. Using ECdownloads as an example, it would be easy enough just to remove the link to it, and leave the hack there, then ask for the instruction on how to completely remove. This way you don`t have to wait to get rid of it for your members, and you also don`t brake your board.

It would be encouraged but it is not compulsory and will not be made so since releasing hacks is voluntary and we appreciate the hack authors for what they offer. The thing that we will monitor is the security of the hacks - otherwise, hack authors are allowed not to offer support (as per the tick box option at the top of each hack thread).
