I have just taken over a forum and looking into merging the forum (vB 3) with my current forum (Also vB 3). I am looking at merging the users and the threads/posts and was wondering if there is a hack out for making this task more efficient.
If not can anyone point me in a direction to start the process?
The easiest way of merging 2 forums, is to use ImpEx. You can downlaod Impex from your members area over at vb.com.
Make sure you read the stickied posts in the "Import System" section at vb.com before starting the merge. I also suggest you create a test board, to try the merge before you do it on a live board.
It works like a charm and only takes a few short minutes to do.. But, but forums/databases must be on the same server, so you would have to move one of them if they are currently on different servers.

Depending on the server configuration is not always needed. If the second server alows outside connections to the MySQL database (most don't allow this for security reasons) then there is no real need to move first.
