Default
you can create new images for each forum and name them...
email22.gif
pm22.gif
etc
the number 22 would be the forumid

then you can modify the templates with the following
<img src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/email$foruminfo[forumid].gif" alt="" border="0" />

if you just want specific forums with different images use conditionals
