For the blog images I used a vbcode that I made to show the thumbnail of a attachment while linking directly to the image. Basically [blog]number of the attachment[/blog]
For the blog I basically used a portal and after numerous layouts altered it to a level where it doesn't look anything like how it used to, and replaced the forumhome index.php with it's.
