hosting solution? Mine blew it!
I received word this evening that my hosting company had problem with my server and it was down for several hours. Then I learned that they had not backed up the site in several days even though they had communicated that complete backups were done every night. Bottom line I lost all posts and new member information for the past week! Needless to say I'm perturbed and looking for a safer alternative.
Any suggestions on fast and safe server solution from end users that are satisfied customers will be appreciated. Pricing information is helpful but I can investigate that once I know the hosting company to look at. Thanks for any input. My site is still new and small (200+ members) and I'll need to move it to a new site. |

Where do you backup to? Server or your local machine?

I back up to a folder above the webroot and download it all via ftp at least once a week. Most of the time I try to let it run overnight if I don't need to download anything else (I am on dial up )

I had a phpbb forum hacked and deleted a few months back and I learned a painful lesson in the process...
I have been moving my various websites to new hosts that allow me to use Unix Cron Jobs and I back my databases up every night and keep the archives above www or /public level as recommended above... I also FTP my site down every time I make a major MOD but most of the time I am more woried about the MYSQL data then the html or php code as the html and php can be replaced... the darned database can't be! I have been using HostRocket and for the price they have been exceptional! |
