Its a directory - its free - it only helps those who list by giving them a link back to their site. It could take 6 months or more to be in the DMOZ directory, and Yahoo charges $300 to be in theirs.
Being in google isnt the goal - that happens alomst automatically - being in google and shopwing up high enough in the listings that people can actually find you - thats the goal.
The way you get higher in the rankings - is by many links back to your site from places like directories and other sites. Its one of the major reasons a site is on the first page or buried on the 30th page. Links.

But regardless - this thread is just for links to VB.ORG member's sites from our directory - There is nothing for them to do on the directory except list their site.

But having a link on a PR 0 (no pagerank at all) gives next to no weight, or none at all to your rankings.

Not quite true - see what the PR looks like when PR is updated next. I am working hard to build alot of backlinks to it on my own - as well as several other SEO strategies. I would guess it'll be a 4 or 5 next PR update.
Also - ALL links to your site are worthwhile - some are just worth more then others.

The PR displayed in the toolbar is always behind the "real" PR of the page. If you look at how the directory is being linked to you'll realize it will have PR effective with the next update.
Sorry but you are essentially advertising your site, especially considering it's free to already be listed in pretty much everything, including Google.
