Will hacks keep working when I update vBulletin?

When you upgrade, you replace the vB files, so sadly any hacks you installed will not work. So yes, you need to reinstall hacks.

Thats the total oppisite, idea, however vB 3.0.1 has no secutiy fixes, you should always upgrade when there is a secutiry update

The somewhat easier way is to upgrade using file-compare programs. You compare your hacked file to the new file from the updated version, and use the program to transfer over code that is from a hack. Then you'll have a new file with the hacked code inside. This could still save you more time, as re-installing could take longer.
