I've reached the point that I need to start charging a small fee to support my forum.
The forum will remain open to everyone but I want to provide as many features to those that contribute money to the forum as I can. I'll be usingthe new subscription feature of VB3.
What are some hacks that really add Value to a forum that would be a geat incentive for people to sign up and pay?
I'll have some feature hacks done throughout the coming months that you could use as paid-only additions. A majorly comprehensive Journal system is one, and I know that there'll be an Arcade coming up for vB3 that you could use...
These are all great but in my opinion, the only true way to get people to pay, is to have a unique hack that either you coded, or paid someone else too.
Ok calm down mate i didnt understand fully, sorry. Your best bet is not to add Large hacks unless you feel they are nessacary as they can be a strain on your forum and BW etc.

What is the topic of the forum?
What common wants and needs do your members have?
Which of these could you fulfill with a hack or service?
Don't look to technology, if you want them to pay, then you have to provide value in exchange. Basic marketing 101.

Technology is a value. A place where people can come together to share opinions and ideas is valuable. It becomes even more valuable with features like private message, attachment posting, e-mail, interactive games, etc. These are all desired commodities that are built with technology and fueled by people.
A forum with many additional features from hacks is a valuable commodity in and of itself.
