Exactly. I do the same thing (shut down the HTTTP server to the public) when I am making upgrades to my forum as well.

So short sited...

When you move servers you leave the old site up, but closed, while the DNS resolves...The old site is closed so no one can access it, and the new site is open so when DNS resolves for you, you get the new site...No one ever gets a 404 or a server not found. It's called good planning.

Any upgrade and/or release is welcome, great if you get it. I'm just repeating the reason for closing as I recall it and it said to move, not release a gamma.

I just got a bunch of "connection refussed" errors and now I'm locked out again. I guess they're still upgrading?

Nah... that's not what is happening here. Besides, the server is actually located in the USA and it's not 12/5/03 here yet.

Screen shot (below) shows what I was seeing before the took the HTTP daemon back out of public service.

Actually there's a couple of misconceptions.

First, what is happening today has nothing to do with the server move. That is scheduled for tomorrow.

Second, the server move is a physical relocation of the server itself - not a transfer of data from one server to another. The hosting company is moving their servers to a new facility. Consequently there is no 'old site' to provide DNS from.
