Why VB?
Hey, I would like to purchase a VB forum but I have one problem. Im 16 and cant buy it without my parents. Anyways I talked to them bout it and they said that they didnt want me to have one. Not because of the cost but because they had some concerns about it. Can you help me convince them to allow me to administrate a VB board?
Heres their concerns... 1) The amount of time it would take 2) The fact that there might be "weird" people that might post on the site Thats about it but they may have more concerns so if you can think of any positive things about it I would appreciate that you would tell me. Thanks. |

1) Depending on how active your community is, it can take up alot of your time. If you have large communtity, which say a 100+ posts per day, then you're looking up to a few hours a day
2) It depends on the topic of you forum - if you want a site dedicated to say, Final Fantasy, then 99% of the users will be Final Fantasy fans. Hope that helps. |

For the time it takes, it depends on activity, as Steven said, but also dedication. I spend cumulatively a couple hours a day on WDF (http://www.webdesignforums.net/), but only in several-minute intervals.
Every board gets its idiot or two. What works for me is having a good, hand-picked, mature, responsible team of moderators and very strict and very explicit rules. As a result, the only time I or my moderators have to ban a member is for advertising, not for pornography, insults, etc. At 16, I think you're old enough by now to be able to handle it (I'm not trying to sound condescending ). Then again, any forum will have these issues, regardless of what powers it. |

Also take into account that it takes time for your site to reach large numbers to where you will be very busy (In Most Cases).
As for those undesirble members there is a nifty ban option. |
