I recently upgraded to Vbulletin from UBB 6.01. There was an option in UBB that allowed users to display any name they like, different from thier login.
For example, at our site (411hype.com)
My Login name was: SirFaraz
but I choose my name to be displayed as: 411BigBoSS
Now, since Ive upgraded to Vbulletin, all the users who used a diff name then thier login, our all showing thier login name. So, basically we dont know who is who.
A person suggested that I asked users to reregister, but that would delete all the users posts. So, if you know of a hack that would allow a memeber to display a name OTHER than thier login, please post some info below.
Thanks In Advance,
Faraz Khan

hey Craig...
Good move switching from a UBB.
VB kicks ass. I visit your site all the time (every day you change the design!) and we emailed a few times when I had a UBB
good luck

If not, let your Users change The Usertitles themselve, an change the Postbit Template, that it shows only the Usertitle, and not anymore the Loginname (Username). Make the Title bold, and you have what you want
If you use Usertitles, you have to make an extra Field in the DB for the new Name
You can also rename the Yahoo or Aim Messenger in the User CP if your users dont use this systems, and integrate it in the Postbit-Template.
That feature doesn't exist in vB. What you could do is change the user names manually. I don't know how many users you have with this situation though. Good luck!
I requested a hack like this a while back, and I would like to see one made. I know that there is a hack for UBB that allows a user to change his/her name, and I was hoping there would be one for vB, but alas there isn't.
One quick fix for this would be to create a Custom user field called, for example, realname. Then you can add the custom user field to the forumhome and forumdisplay templates (described somewhere in the Templates forum, but its very easy to do). $customprofile[x] (x = the id of the custom field) or similar.
Take a look at http://utassault.monsterkill.net and you will see that we let users prefix or sufix their name with a Clan Tag (gaming site you see ) - this should work for you. You'll just have to include it in a few more places.
Its not a true fix, but it will help identify people, and let the users make the changes themselves.
