Any chatroom recommendations?

Anybody have a link to a chatroom program that might be integrated with vbulletin?

I don't won't to rely on someone's elses server for the chat program.

java is fine.
phpmychat just seems to be too slow.

I was eventually going to hire someone to add a "who's online" to the forums pages.
This increases the number of chatroom participants.
