Aren't there multiple versions of th "Thread Preview Hack" floating around? I seem to recall that the older hack adds an extra query...

check how many subscribedTo threads (and forums) there are

select count(*) from subscribethread
select count(*) from subscribeforum

If there are a lot of subscriptions, it's been my experience that this can slow "posting time" for users ~~ and, if subscriptions are causing slowdowns you'll notice that it's only slow when posting to certain forums (the most heavily-subscribed subforums).

If your on dedcated you might wanna ask eva2000 over at vBulletin.com forums if he can take a look at the way your mySQL is configed, that could be the problem also.

The Rackshack box is definately a factor. My guess is the IDE drive.

I recently bought a server from Rackshack to serve ads. It's a plain Redhat Compaq DL320 PIII 1Ghz.

In comparison to my Dialtone IBM xseries, it's like a dog. In fact my dialtone celeron IBM is probably on par with it. The big difference is both Dialtone boxes have SCSI drives.
