Paul M coded this heavily modified version specifically for vBulletin. It's not for sale. The version used on this site has never been for sale. No one cares what you find acceptable. That's the answer to the question no matter who answers it.
I don't have anything to add really that hasn't already been said; the proprietary version of vB being run here is not publicly available, whether anyone finds it acceptable or not. That's just the way it is.
if you are added to footer "Powered by vBulletin? Version 3.8.12", this event is of interest to all customers.
Either you will not use custom 3.8 series or you will distribute it to all your customers.
