Writing my own Forum Software would take a lot more time and i like the vbulletin 2 a lot so why write a new one.
You should still be able to download vBulletin 2 by selecting the version when downloading any current version (see attached screenshot) as Stingray and others mentioned. I do not recommend using vB2. If you had for example been using it this entire time (since it's release) and had a developer who consistently patched it and kept it up-to-date then perhaps but you're coming into this nearly a decade after it's releasing hoping to patch anything security related and keep all the hackers out? "Good Luck with that!" would be what I'd say to the Eskimo building his igloo out of fire lol i.e. don't try to do that okay? Just go with vBulletin 3/4/5 (more so 3 or 4) and have a developer do to it what you want done = done.

Edit: We will not allow download of those modifications for quite a few reasons and it's not up for discussion either, you can open a ticket with vBulletin support to ask but my best guess it will be a no for a similar set of reasons.

Just as an aside, vBulletin 2 does not have 'plugins', it has add-ons and you manually edited the files etc. Indeed even 3.0 is like this, the product and plugin system didn't appear until 3.5.

I do not understand for what i should contact the vbulletin support, for access to the hacks?
And where is this Ticket System? Link?

I know vBulletin 2 has no automatic Plugin installer.
So it are Hacks.

I personally can not understand why there is no access to the downloads section generally, when there is somebody like me wanting to use or just have fun with the old software why he should not download these hacks?
vBulletin also still let you download the old releases and other Forum Software Companys like UBB also let you download the old versions.

1. Access to add ons is for license holders only. Why would anyone without a license be running the software in the first place? Doing so is unlawful.

2. Even with a license, the add ons are insecure. Allowing them to be downloaded will result in people using them and then blaming the company when they get hacked as a result.

This is not going to change.

Because they are ancient, and designed for equally ancient, insecure, software.

The main reason older versions of vB are available is because the old licensing system only allowed you to access the version up to when your licence support expired - so blocking them would block all the old (perfectly valid) vB3 licences from accessing any version.

Never underestimate how much modding is important to customers.

The reason why internet explorer lost its leadership, the reason why I upgraded to vb4 and the reason why I never upgraded to vb5 are all the same : modding.

We will never forgive what you did with vb5.

It's not vBulletin's fault that a large number of their third party coder know just enough about coding to be dangerous but not enough to understand how an API works.

It's hard and we can't make any money by writing an hour's worth of code! Wah!

So they all went to XenForo, where they can code like it's the year 2000. LOL.

If mods are that important you don't look for free ones. You pay a professional to do specifically what you need to a standard rarely seen in free mods.

I think the problem with vBulletin 5 is the lack of documentation.
If they had a documentation like Laravel, it would have so much more plugins.

Unless there's something I don't know Wayne Luke doesn't exactly have countless hours to dedicate to writing a comprehensive vB5.x manual. Neither do the developers.

The aforemetioned notwithstanding:

Documentation should have been available at release. That ship has sailed.

What use would it of been? They paid Paul to remove the hook system... yes he was tasked with that so unless you wanted to do manual file edits when vB5 first hit each and every upgrade and do your own custom mods w/o ease-of-use hook system it truly didn't matter back then. The ship never sailed, it sunk and now we're so far behind on having anything remotely close to the sheer number of vB3/4 plugins available that vB5 with all it's effort will never be to me (personally speaking) what vB3 or 4 ever was in their worst forms.

Progress has been made sure, tons of improvements to vB5 and it's nice now but it's still standing in modification quicksand.
