Those with Wordpress / VB integrated sites
I have a few questions for people who are currently or have previously run a website using both VB and wordpress:
- (if you were using standard vb4 then later added WP) we're your google rankings damaged/affected? - has it impacted your new registrations/activity? - does it make it harder to keep the site up to date / maintained? - any issues you've encountered after taking this step? + any general comments you have. I'm planning to add WP to replace the current vb4 CMS, and the landing page would be the WP site instead of forums (current set up). Any comments or tips appreciated. Oh, and is it worth using a SSO? We won't really be using the WP site for commenting etc (registrations/log in for that part might even be disabled). |

I don't want to hijack the thread, but as a baby one of my cousins could not say my name (Gilbert), Mexicans call their babies (chichis) which is also a term for (boobies)... so my cousin started hearing people call me el chichi (the baby) and so the name stuck with me throughout my childhood and to this day everyone calls me Chichi or CheechDogg, people added the Dogg to my nickname back in the early 90s because a (Dogg) or (Dawg) means close friends amongst black people but (Dogg) is the term amongst (Mexicans)...lol....
So when xbox live started up, I used (CheechDogg) as my gamertag and also as my Playstation Id .....LOL... But yes, I love Joomla as my CMS, more versatile than wordpress ..... |

I've used Joomla in the past but got the impression that WP might be more suitable for just a simple sort of site and better for google rankings. I don't think I've looked at Joomla in over a year though so I might go back and check out how it's looking nowadays.

As a matter of fact, if you made your own custom page for each article just using vbulletin, your article would still show up in the search results ... Check this custom page I just made a few days ago on my forums .... I used "cag member of the month" as my search query and my custom page is in the 1st page for that search ... this is my custom page: https://www.cagclan.com/community/ca...-the-month.php It takes work on "our" part my Man to get results, it's just our preference "Max's" and mine to use Joomla, but WP would be just as effective if you use it correctly .... |

I see... My only concern at the moment is how Joomla is quite a lot more complex - both a good and bad thing. Obviously better in terms of features and how powerful it can be, but I can see it becoming an issue when it comes to maintenance and the pressure on the server. I'm no way a master at websites yet so dealing with the complexity of Joomla when/if an issue arises wouldn't be that fun.
Still, I'll take a better look around before deciding. I've used Joomla and know how great it can be for certain sites but might not work in context with what I want to do with it. The smaller learning curve of WP means its more likely I can get it to where I want faster, and who knows, maybe I'll just use it as the launch pad for later Joomla use. |
