Prevent Multiple Registrations from same IP Address?

Hi,

Is there a way I can limit the amount of registrations from an IP address?

I'm using vBulletin 4.

I've tried search but can't really get a result mainly because IP is two letters and a word needs 3 letters minimum it says.

According to vB's help in the admin section, that setting makes no checks for IP.

Normally, vBulletin will stop users signing up for multiple names by checking for a cookie on the user's machine. If one exists, then the user may not sign up for additional names. Note: This does not stop users from logging out and then registering new accounts.

It certainly doesn't do IP checks on registration in vB3 (haven't put vB4 in a live environment yet).

There might be an addon that will do this, however.

I couldn't find any either.
Hopefully there will be a solution to this at some stage.

This is an easy mod to code. I have coded one just last week for a client of mine.

Anyway, if you will request it at the request forums, depending how you will request it, paid or free, then you might find someone who will code it for you.

IP detection really won't work for a couple reasons. First, everyone in the same building is likely using the same IP (families, the local firehouse, etc.). Second, anyone determined to get around a rule you have will simply use an anonymous proxy which will give them a different IP.

I'm not sure if this is something you want to do. What if you have two users at the same college campus or business? Only one will be able to register.
