Hello,
Our site got hacked, running vbulletin 4.2.2, requiring us to reupload all the vbulletin files and run upgrade as well as delete our custom theme and reinstall it. Everything went without a hitch, expect there are two weird issues. 1) Search bar gone MIA. I have grown quite attached to the damn thing, and it is gone... I have no idea how to get it back and where to look for it.... 2) Notification area for the private message is quite useless now, when you click the arrow down, only thing it shows is a white box, once you mouse over it, it highlights mustard yellow, with text being barely readable. Where do I fix that??? 3) I have tried to contact the designer of the theme, but he is MIA just like my search bar. I am suspecting they are in cahoots. Please help. Screenshots included, one with missing bar and the broken notification filed, the other one where search bar still loved me. Thank you. -Davit |

Do you have search enabled in AdminCP > Settings > Options > Message Searching Options > Search Engine Enabled ?
How about for the usergroups - Usergroup Manager > edit usergroup > Can Search Forums ? And does it show up on a default style? Create a new style with no parent:
We need a test login to see the other problem with the dropdown. |

Thank you for your reply and giving me a step by step, really helps a lot. 1) Yes, checked that first thing, it was on. I turn it on and off, no change 2) Same as above 3) Yes it shows in the default style perfectly fine. It is like it got moved from my custom skin. Is there a template or move option like for navbar_tab_size moves my breadcrumbs up and down. Is there one for that search bar? 4) I have one ready, how do I get you the credentials? Does it need to have admin rights? Thank you for your help. -Davit |

If it works in the default style, then it must have been removed from the custom style and so you need to add the code back into there. If you can't get a hold of the designer, you will have to do it yourself. To find the template to modify (and the one to copy the code from), do this - vboptions > General Settings > Add Template Name in HTML Comments > set to Yes . Then go back to your page and view the source code and you will see the name of the template called around your part of the code. (Sometimes the template is the one mentioned at the very top of the page source.)
Oh course, make a copy of your template before you modify it just in case you goof! ![]() |

You need to view default theme to find bar search variable and put it back on your theme.
